Iain HalesChampagne Bucket
pigmented Jesmonite, stainless coated steel
2018
27.5 x 42 × 42 cm
Iain Hales’ champagne cooler is a playful and colourful reinterpretation of a classical pedestaled bowl. Adopting forms akin to an inverted ziggurat (an early type of Mesopotamian pyramid), the alternating layers of black and pale pink echo the chequerboard marble floor of the Queen’s House Orangery in Greenwich. It was originally commissioned by Timothy Smith & Jonathan Taylor Architects.
