Iain HalesChampagne Cooler (Verdigris)
pigmented Jesmonite, stainless coated steel
2020
27.5 x 42 × 42 cm
Iain Hales’ champagne cooler is a playful and colourful reinterpretation of a classical pedestaled bowl. Adopting forms akin to an inverted ziggurat (an early type of Mesopotamian pyramid), the alternating layers of black and pale green echo the chequerboard marble floor of the Queen’s House Orangery in Greenwich. This 2020 version is based on a first edition of two black and pink buckets that were originally commissioned by Timothy Smith & Jonathan Taylor Architects in 2018.
