Paulina Michnowska creates visual allegories, often humorous, rooted in autobiographical anecdotes, historical folklore and the dullness of mundanity. This work is from a series of ornamental ceramic sculptures that the artist built on top of 19th century Staffordshire figures, popular during the Victorian era. The old structure is covered with new vibrantly painted layers of clay that were re-fired in the kiln, giving the original sculpture a new identity.
