Benedikte Klüver works across painting, needlepoint and photography to explore the relationship between colour and material. In her minimal compositions, colours both clash and harmonise, forming what she describes as “a map of temperaments.” Her abstract paintings are built from washed layers of oil, combining geometric and organic qualities through a palette that is at once vibrant and earthy. Klüver’s embroidered works pursue a geometric formalism through traditional needlepoint. Produced in moments of waiting, these miniature, precise tapestries supplement her painting practice and recall the legacy of Bauhaus weavers, drawing on the historical significance of women’s tapestry making.
Klüver’s work is held in international private collections. She has exhibited at Canopy Collections, London; MAMA, London; Anderson Contemporary, London; Vinvin Gallery, Vienna; Opera Gallery, Milan; Was Art Center, Hong Kong; 1993 Old Millfun, Shangai.
