Macarena Rojas Osterling works across drawing and painting to create intricately detailed artworks which oscillate between control and fluidity. Her unique style is inspired by her background in architectural drawing and combines decisive, mathematical precision with bursts of intuitive mark making. There is a tangible sense of musicality in Rojas Osterling's work, where playful scribbles appear like musical notes across a carefully constructed backdrop of lines, evocative of musical scores and graphic notation. Each work is imbued with its own sense of rhythm, repetition and music that can be experienced visually. The artist’s carefully constructed works seem to overflow with multiplicities. These are artworks which are personal yet universal, visually complex yet welcoming, asking to be unravelled.
Rojas Osterling has exhibited internationally at The International Center of Photography, New York; TJ Boulting Gallery, London; Black Box Projects, London; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Lima; Crisis Galeria, Lima; Art Lima, ArtBo Bogotá; Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Santiago de Chile; Museo Amano, Lima. Her work is held in public and private collections in the UK, USA, Spain, Chile, Peru, Costa Rica.
