Irvin Pascal’s artistic practice encompasses painting, drawing, sculpture, performance and sound. Often involving rich colour palettes and geometric patterns, his work embraces a theoretical approach to colour while his abstract compositions draw influence from mathematics and the dynamics of musical arrangement. Pascal's imagery references the built environment and the landscape of Sussex, where he is based, as well as human figures and symbols reminiscent of hieroglyphics and cave paintings. His carefully formulated drawings bring together geometric, totem-like shapes alongside references from both classical and popular culture. His paintings and drawings always bear the date when the artist started to make the work, as a personal record of the art making process.
Pascal’s work is held in private collections in the UK, USA, France, Israel and Nigeria. He has exhibited with Jac Forbes Contemporary, Malibu; Simchowitz Gallery, Los Angeles; Canopy Collections, London; Lychee One, London; The Pit, Los Angeles; Cob Gallery, London; Stephen Friedman Gallery, London.
