Reflections is the first exhibition dedicated entirely to Anna Freeman Bentley's works on paper, which form a crucial part of her process.
Reflections is an apt term with which to underpin the work of Freeman Bentley. It suggests plurality, self-perception and artifice – all themes that she has long explored within her painting practice. Although her chosen subjects are often referred to as ‘domestic interiors’, the worlds she articulates are in fact ones of illusion and refraction.
Anna Freeman Bentley’s work explores the emotional and social resonances of interior spaces. Her practice focuses on rooms, shops, warehouses, private clubs, bars and other architectural environments, transforming them into sites that evoke memory and suggest human presence without ever depicting people.
