Jonathan Baldock's practice spans sculpture, textiles and installation, where the distinct material, tactile qualities of ceramic and fabric are used to explore the body as a site of ritual, memory and transformation. Rooted in a sustained engagement with folklore, ritual and the carnivalesque, his work often deploys humour and irreverence as critical tools, unsettling fixed ideas of identity and embodiment.
Baldock's work is held in prominent collections internationally, including Aïshti Foundation, Beirut; Arts Council Collection, London; Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio; RISD Museum, Rhode Island; The Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool; The Roberts Institute of Art, London and Saatchi Gallery, London. He has exhibited at Arnolfini, Bristol; Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh; Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Wakefield; Stephen Friedman Gallery, London; Nicelle Beauchene Gallery, New York; Camden Arts Centre, London and The Bluecoat, Liverpool.
