Aethan Wills After a spring shower (early morning)
oil on canvas
2021
75 × 51 cm
Aethan Wills’ practice is primarily concerned with Japanese aesthetics and ideals. His oil paintings depict fragmented visions of temple and tea gardens, perceived through the traditional Japanese Shō-ji screens that the artist transforms into subtle grids. Tree branches and flowers are translated into abstract brushstrokes, creating elusive landscapes that celebrate the passing of the seasons.
