Laure Prouvost’s work challenges our perceptions of the everyday, employing a wide range of materials to explore the outer reaches of language and memory. Her sign paintings are compelling representations of her signature narrative voice. The pieces, which each denote a different written phrase, act as playful invitations for the viewer to step into the artist’s constructed reality. In this body of work, Prouvost gives the paintings personalities of their own, which are used to address the viewer directly, initiating a conversation between the artwork and the audience.
