Irvin Pascal’s figurative works reference the built environment and landscape of Sussex, where he based, as well as scenes from the time he has spent in Los Angeles, US and Kingston, Jamaica. Pascal created this work during a one-month residency in LA. The piece depicts Adrien Sauvage, the renowned British/Ghanian fashion designer who is a friend of the artist. During the time they spent together in LA, Pascal was drawn to Sauvage’s personal sense of style, his energetic charisma and his love for high design. Here, Sauvage is painted in an alleyway in the La Brea area of LA, adopting a contrapposto stance and wearing a knee-length leather trench coat that he designed.
