Anastasia Lopoukhine works across pen and ink, charcoal drawing and collage. Often drawing from memory, her works depict characters from her childhood, which function as prompts to help her recall the funny, grotesque and strange nature of everyday encounters.
This is a portrait of the stereotypical art student, complete with messy hair and an oversized jumper. The shell-shocked expression on the subject’s face is a reference to the simultaneous excitement and nerves which art students face as they leave the comfort of art school and enter the real world.
