Anastasia Lopoukhine works across pen and ink, charcoal drawing and collage. Often drawing from memory, her works depict characters from her childhood and people she observes in her daily life, which function as prompts to help her recall the funny, grotesque and strange nature of everyday encounters.
The legs in this drawing are inspired by the unusual compositions which can be found in Wolford tights advertisements. The composition began as a drawing of a woman’s legs, but with knees which are more masculine in appearance. As a result, the subject’s gender is left intentionally ambiguous.
