Anastasia Lopoukhine works across pen and ink, charcoal drawing and collage. Often drawing from memory, her works depict characters from her childhood, which function as prompts to help her recall the funny, grotesque and strange nature of everyday encounters. When Lopoukhine first moved to New York, she had a job pressing the elevator buttons on Shabbat for the Jewish community in the upper east side of New York. She would find herself taking various objects in and out of elevators, including this huge bouquet of flowers.
