Anastasia LopoukhineFor better or for worse but not for lunch
Anastasia Lopoukhine works across pen and ink, charcoal drawing and collage. Often drawing from memory, her works depict characters from her childhood, which function as prompts to help her recall the funny, grotesque and strange nature of everyday encounters.
In the artist's own words: “One of the only pieces of marital advice my mother has given me was ‘Darling, there is no need to have lunch with your husband every day'. In this drawing, I wanted to depict a lady who has done a lot of lunchtime flirting in her life. She has positioned herself between two men at the table. She is strapped into her carefully selected outfit in such a way that her vertebra aligns with the buttons on her dress. The plates are clear, but she is already reaching for the knife.”
Unframed.
