Anastasia Lopoukhine works across pen and ink, charcoal drawing and collage. Often drawing from memory, her works depict characters from her childhood, which function as prompts to help her recall the funny, grotesque and strange nature of everyday encounters.
This drawing is based on a woman the artist saw at a café in New York who seemed like she would have an interesting life story. The woman was waiting for a young man who arrived very late. Once he had arrived, Lopoukhine sensed that the woman had the moral high ground. She had the power in the situation and the late friend became like a praying mantis, bowing down and praying for forgiveness.Framed.
