Anastasia Lopoukhine works across pen and ink, charcoal drawing and collage. Often drawing from memory, her works depict characters from her childhood and people she observes in her daily life, which function as prompts to help her recall the funny, grotesque and strange nature of everyday encounters.
This drawing depicts a friend of the artist enjoying an ice cream. It’s a reflection on the battle that ice cream companies face when advertising their products, between something simultaneously sexual and innocent. The subject has an almost saintly demeanour reminiscent of an orthodox icon.
