Anastasia Lopoukhine works across pen and ink, charcoal drawing and collage. Often drawing from memory, her works depict characters from her childhood, which function as prompts to help her recall the funny, grotesque and strange nature of everyday encounters. Hands are a central reoccurring theme in Lopoukhine’s drawings. This drawing features a gentleman in New York holding his hat against his chest, which is based on a crop of a photograph by Diane Arbus.
